Lelu Island
Lelu Island, located just off the eastern coast of Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia, is a place of exceptional historical, cultural, and ecological importance. Between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, it served as the political and ceremonial center of the ancient Kingdom of Kosrae. During this period, its inhabitants built the remarkable stone city of Leluh using massive basalt blocks, demonstrating advanced engineering and extensive trade connections across the Pacific. Today, the island is surrounded by thriving mangrove forests, colorful coral reefs, and clear tropical waters that support remarkable biodiversity.
