Galapagos Islands
The Galápagos Islands, in Ecuador, are a volcanic archipelago of exceptional historical and scientific importance, famous for inspiring Charles Darwin. Their unique ecosystem hosts endemic flora such as lava cacti, mangroves, and Scalesia forests. The fauna includes giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and Darwin's finches. Geographic isolation has shaped extraordinary biodiversity, producing species found nowhere else on Earth. The islands represent a living laboratory for evolution and global conservation efforts in a fragile and highly protected natural environment of great ecological importance worldwide today.

Galapagos Islands
The Galápagos Islands, located in Ecuador, are a volcanic archipelago of extraordinary ecological and scientific importance. Their unique ecosystem famously contributed to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. The flora includes prickly pear cacti, mangroves, and scalesia forests. The fauna is highly endemic, featuring giant tortoises, marine iguanas, Darwin's finches, sea lions, and birds such as the blue-footed booby. Geographic isolation has allowed species to evolve independently over millions of years. The ecosystem integrates fragile marine and terrestrial environments protected as both a national park and marine reserve. It remains one of the world's most valuable natural laboratories with exceptional biodiversity and ongoing conservation efforts across the islands today highly protected.

Galapagos Islands
Galápagos Islands, part of Ecuador, are a volcanic archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean about one thousand kilometers off the South American coast. Their geological origin comes from ongoing volcanic activity that has created young and diverse islands. Historically, they were visited by sailors and pirates from the sixteenth century, but gained scientific importance after Charles Darwin's visit in 1835, which influenced the theory of evolution. The ecosystem of the Galápagos is highly unique due to its exceptional endemism. Flora includes cacti, mangroves, Scalesia trees, and plants adapted to volcanic soils. Fauna features giant tortoises, marine iguanas, Darwin's finches, sea lions, and numerous seabirds. Ocean currents shape the climate, mixing cold and warm waters that sustain biodiversity. Today, the islands are a protected national park and marine reserve, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and managed for conservation and scientific research. Their protection remains crucial for global science efforts.

Bartolomé Island
Isla Bartolomé is one of the most iconic volcanic islands in the Islas Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. Located near Santiago Island, it is renowned for the striking Pinnacle Rock, a dramatic volcanic cone formed by erosion. Its landscape is barren and lunar-like, shaped by recent volcanic activity with lava fields and cinder cones. The island supports unique wildlife including the Galápagos penguin, sea lions, marine iguanas, and nesting sea turtles. It was named after Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan of the HMS Beagle expedition. Today it is a protected site within the Galápagos National Park and a destination for ecotourism and scientific observation.
