Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, located in eastern Madagascar near the town of Andasibe and approximately 150 kilometers from Antananarivo, is one of the island's most important natural sanctuaries. Established in 1989 through the integration of the Analamazaotra Special Reserve and Mantadia National Park, it protects one of Madagascar's last remaining areas of humid tropical rainforest. Its most iconic resident is the indri lemur, the largest lemur species in Madagascar, renowned for its powerful calls that echo throughout the forest. The park contains exceptional biodiversity, including more than one hundred bird species, chameleons, frogs, butterflies, and numerous reptiles. Its vegetation features giant ferns, endemic orchids, palm trees, and ancient tropical forests. This unique ecosystem provides a vital refuge for countless species found nowhere else on Earth and represents one of Madagascar's greatest examples of rainforest conservation and ecological preservation.
Mitsinjo Park
Mitsinjo Park is a community managed tropical rainforest reserve located in the Andasibe region of eastern Madagascar. Created and operated by local residents, it represents a participatory conservation model focused on protecting the unique ecosystems of Madagascar's humid rainforest.
