Chiloe and the archipelago
The Chiloé Archipelago, located in southern Chile, has a rich history shaped by indigenous groups such as the Huilliche and Chono peoples, later influenced by Spanish colonization in the 16th century. Its geographic isolation fostered a distinct cultural identity, reflected in its iconic wooden churches recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The ecosystem is characterized by a temperate rainforest climate, with dense Valdivian forests featuring species like coigüe, ulmo, and arrayán trees. Its fauna includes seabirds, penguins, otters, and the endemic Darwin's fox. Coastal zones, fjords, and wetlands support high marine biodiversity, essential for local fisheries. The interplay of climate, terrain, and human traditions has created a unique landscape where nature and culture coexist in a dynamic balance, making it one of the most distinctive environments in southern South America.

Puñihuil Islets
The Puñihuil islets, located on the western coast of Chiloé, Chile, are part of a precious marine ecosystem within the archipelago. This place is renowned as one of the few areas in the world where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins live and nest together. Since ancient times, Chiloé's communities have relied on the sea for fishing and gathering, building a close bond with these rocky islets. Today, Puñihuil stands as a symbol of conservation, responsible tourism, and the natural heritage of southern Chile and its history.
