Floating Islands of the Uros
The Floating Islands of the Uros, located on Lake Titicaca near Puno, Peru, are an artificial archipelago built from totora reeds, a native aquatic plant of the lake. Their origins date back to pre-Inca times, when the Uros people sought refuge on the water to escape conflicts with Andean cultures. Today, their descendants preserve ancestral traditions, living from fishing, handicrafts and tourism.
