Hacienda Los Mortiños
Hacienda Los Mortiños is a hacienda style hotel in El Pedregal, in the canton of Mejía, on the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano and about 1.5 km from the north entrance to Cotopaxi National Park. It began as a family project in 2000, when the owners bought the property with the idea of creating a mountain lodge overlooking the volcanoes of the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Its name comes from the many mortiño plants that grow in the area, a wild Andean berry related to the blueberry. Today, the property offers lodging, a restaurant, and activities such as horseback riding and guided walks, while also promoting local chagra culture, high-Andean landscapes, and environmental care through sustainable practices and reforestation. The setting blends comfort and adventure with broad views of Cotopaxi and the surrounding peaks. It is designed for travelers seeking a quiet base to explore the highlands and nearby park trails comfortably.

Quilotoa Lagoon
The Quilotoa Lagoon is a volcanic lake located inside the caldera of the Quilotoa volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. It was formed after a powerful eruption around 800 years ago, which caused the crater to collapse and fill with water. Its striking turquoise color results from dissolved minerals and underlying geothermal activity. Historically, it has been a sacred site for indigenous communities, who regard it as a place of strong spiritual energy. Today, it stands as a major tourist attraction in the Andean region, drawing visitors from around the world.
