Sanctuary Lodge
The Sanctuary Lodge, A Belmond Hotel is an exclusive hotel located at the entrance of Machu Picchu, the only one within the historic sanctuary. Its origins date back to the early 20th century, when the site served as a base camp for researchers following Hiram Bingham's arrival in 1911. Over time, it was adapted and later operated under the Belmond brand. Today, it blends history, Andean nature, and luxury, offering privileged access to the Inca citadel and its remarkable cultural surroundings.

Sanctuary Lodge
The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is an exclusive hotel located at the entrance of Machu Picchu, within the Andean historic sanctuary. Its origins are tied to the growth of tourism in the 20th century, when increasing visitor numbers created demand for nearby accommodation. Later incorporated into the Belmond group (formerly Orient-Express), the lodge became the only hotel adjacent to the archaeological site. With just 31 rooms, it blends understated luxury with a natural setting, surrounded by gardens featuring native Andean flora. Its privileged location allows immediate access to the Inca citadel, offering a unique and exclusive experience for visitors.

Sanctuary Lodge
Sanctuary Lodge, located at the entrance of Machu Picchu, is the only hotel positioned directly beside this iconic Andean sanctuary. Its origins date back to the early 20th century, when the site served as a base for researchers following the 1911 rediscovery of the citadel by Hiram Bingham. For decades, it functioned as a scientific and logistical camp before gradually evolving into a hotel. Over time, ownership changed hands, and the property was restored under the supervision of Peru's cultural authorities, preserving its historical significance. Today, operated by Belmond, it blends exclusivity with immediate access to the archaeological site. Surrounded by cloud forest and dramatic peaks such as Huayna Picchu, the lodge offers a unique immersive setting. Its understated architecture harmonizes with nature, creating an intimate retreat where heritage, landscape, and refined hospitality meet in one of the world's most extraordinary destinations.

Temple of the Sun
The Temple of the Sun is one of the most sacred structures in Machu Picchu. Built during the reign of Inca emperor PachacĆŗtec in the 15th century, it features finely carved curved stone walls showcasing Inca engineering mastery. The temple was dedicated to the sun god Inti, and its design allows sunlight to enter precisely during solstices, illuminating significant points. Beneath the structure lies a ceremonial cave, possibly used for funerary rites or religious ceremonies.
