Pikaia Lodge

Pikaia Lodge is a luxury eco-lodge located on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. Opened in 2014, it was conceived as a pioneering "land-based eco-adventure" concept that combines high-end accommodation with sustainable exploration of the surrounding environment. The property is set in the highlands of an extinct volcanic crater, where arid savannah transitions into humid cloud forest. The lodge spans a private reserve that protects wild giant tortoises and supports ongoing reforestation and habitat restoration programs. Its design follows strict low-impact environmental principles, emphasizing energy efficiency, sustainable materials, and minimal ecological footprint. Guests experience guided land and marine excursions, including yacht trips to nearby islands within the archipelago. The name "Pikaia" refers to Pikaia gracilens, an ancient Cambrian organism linked to early vertebrate evolution, reflecting the lodge's thematic connection to Darwinian science. Pikaia Lodge blends conservation, scientific inspiration, and luxury hospitality in a UNESCO World Heritage ecosystem.
