NH Montevideo Columbia

NH Montevideo Columbia
NH Montevideo Columbia stands in Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo's historic old quarter, within easy walking distance of Teatro SolĂs, Plaza Independencia, and the waterfront Rambla Sur. Designed by architect Walter Pintos Risso and built in the early 1960s, the hotel reflects modernist lines and was substantially remodeled in 1999, when its main entrance was shifted toward the Rambla. Its setting gives guests broad views of the RĂo de la Plata and direct access to the city's cultural heart, from the theater district to the port, museums, and historic streets that define old Montevideo.

NH Montevideo Columbia
The NH Montevideo Columbia is a four-star hotel located in Montevideo's historic Old Town, overlooking the RĂo de la Plata and within walking distance of the Teatro SolĂs, one of Uruguay's most iconic cultural landmarks. Originally built in 1959 and renovated in 1999, the property represents the evolution of urban hospitality in the city, combining modern amenities with a historically rich setting. Its prime location places guests near key attractions such as Plaza Independencia and the Mercado del Puerto, making it ideal for both leisure and business travelers. The hotel features 136 rooms, many offering scenic river views, along with meeting spaces and event facilities. Over time, it has remained a relevant accommodation option by adapting to contemporary standards while preserving its connection to Montevideo's architectural and cultural heritage.

Citadel Gate
The Citadel Gate is the last remaining element of the Spanish colonial fortress that once defended Montevideo's walled city in the 18th century. After the walls were demolished in 1877, the structure was dismantled and relocated until its reconstruction in 1959 near present-day Plaza Independencia. Today, it marks the entrance to the Old City. Nearby, the SolĂs Theatre, inaugurated in 1856, embodies the republic's cultural development with its neoclassical design and major artistic role. Together, both landmarks illustrate Montevideo's historical transition from fortified colony to modern capital.
